“UN-SOLOMON” PRAYER

February 9, 2010

Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD… and stretching forth his hands toward heaven, he said, “LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below; you keep your covenant of kindness with your servants who are faithful to you with their whole heart.” (1 King 8:22-23)

O Lord, extend your promise of kindness even to the people who have been unfaithful to you… people like me. Amen.

MAKE ME A REFLECTION OF YOU

February 8, 2010

Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and…people immediately recognized him (Mark 6: 53-54).

Lord Jesus, today make me a reflection of You. May people who know me, but don’t know You, come to know You because they know me. Amen.

COUNT HIS MERCY

February 5, 2010

The LORD forgave David his sins and exalted his strength forever. (Sirach 47: 11)

God, when I feel ashamed to come before You because my sins are too many to count, I always hear You speak to my heart: “Okay, now try to count My mercy, if you can.” My God, I am in awe of You…

PRAYER FOR PARENTS

February 2, 2010

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord (Luke 2: 22-23)

Lord, today I pray for all parents. (Mention the names of your own parents and those who are torn between work and home.) I especially lift up to you their faith-life. Honor the struggles of fathers and mothers, Lord, and let fullness of wisdom and Godly favor rest upon their children. Amen.

DWELL IN MY HEART

January 28, 2010

I will give my eyes no sleep my eyelids no rest, till I find a home for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One… (Psalm 132: 4,5)

Lord Jesus, look no more for a place to dwell in… my heart is available. I just have one thing to ask: when You enter my heart, let no one else occupy it. Amen.

I AM IN AWE OF YOU

January 22, 2010

Jesus appointed twelve whom he also named apostles that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach. (Mark 3: 14)

Lord, Peter denied you, Thomas doubted you, and Judas betrayed you. And I… I did all that. Still, You call me to be with You. How great is Your mercy, Lord! I can only bow in awe of Your love!

WHEN I FEEL LIKE GIVING UP

January 20, 2010

David answered Goliath, “You come against me with sword and spear… but I come against you in the name of the LORD of hosts…Today the LORD shall deliver you into my hand…For the battle is the LORD’s…” (1 Sam 17: 45-47)

When I feel like giving up in the battles of this day, remind me, Lord, of our respective roles:  I PRAY, YOU FIGHT.  As I lift up to You this prayer, I also claim the victory, in Jesus’ mighty name.  Amen.

I WANT NEW FAVORS

January 18, 2010

No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins are ruined. (Mark 2: 22)

I hear you, my Lord. I cannot expect to receive Your far and beyond favors unless I give up my old ways that are not pleasing to You. I, therefore, give You permission to mold me, Lord, into what You want me to be. Then favor me as only You can do.  Amen.

SPEAK WORDS OF WHOLENESS

January 14, 2010

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” (Mark 1: 40-41)

Lord, as I lay before You my sins, humbly hiding nothing, let me hear Your powerful words of wholeness once more: “I do will it; be made clean.”

THE PRAYER OF THE TROUBLED

January 6, 2010

Jesus saw that the disciples were tossed about while rowing, for the wind was against them… He got into the boat with them and the wind died down. (Mark 6: 48, 51)

Jesus, the year has barely started, and yet many things trouble me. I ask you – don’t calm the storms of my life; just enter my life, Lord… and great calm shall be upon me. Amen.
